MEET THE BOARD - Irene Rugare Sambo

ireneIrene Rugare Sambo was born in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Son of a cattle rancher and educationist father, and nurse mother, Irene was brought up on a cattle ranch in Mashonaland East. Irene obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Zimbabwe in 2004. “I love caring for the sick and assisting them to live a better healthier life, utilising the minimum resources they may have.”

She has been an NNIA Board member since 2015. During her tenure, she has collaborated with the ministry of health and child welfare in Zimbabwe to accept food fortification as well as to start paediatric nurse training. To date, Zimbabwe has trained over 300 paediatric nurses with the assistance of Australian Universities. She is also among the first 100 students who obtained a post-graduate certificate in paediatric nutrition with the University of Boston.

“As an NNIA board member, I am highly motivated by the team spirit which is research driven. We use the knowledge gained into practice for the betterment of the health of all communities, to change disease patterns, and assist with early identification and treatment of new diseases.”
