Ranorolala Omega is the President of the National Midwives Council of Madagascar

Ranorolala Omega is the President of the National Midwives Council of Madagascar as well as a teacher and supervisor of at midwifery schools in Antananarivo, Madagascar. She was inspired to go into the profession because she is passionate about taking care of others. “ This is a choice, to take care of others, to look after mothers, children and doing better continually, it’s continuum care”, she says.

Omega has been a midwife for more than 35 years having obtained a state certified qualification from midwifery schools in Antananarivo, Madagascar. She went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Fianrantsoa and a Certificate in Nursing and Nutrition from the Johns Hopkins University in 2020.

She participated in NNIA’s Certified Program in Nursing and Nutrition programme in 2020 and was a part of the first class to participate in the programme in Madagascar. Omega says she intends to incorporate what she learned in the courses into her own training courses in order to enable new nurses to be better equipped to deal with malnutrition issues faced in Madagascar. Her aim is to focus on stunting and wasting which occurs in many children under the age of five.

Omega expresses the importance of healthcare professionals participating in helping to improve the nutritional status of their communities by sharing their knowledge, encouraging better eating habits through demonstrations, and expressing the importance of proper nutrition in the first 1000 days.

Ranorolala Omega is dedicated to improving the lives of mothers and children in Madagascar. She believes that education and practice are the key to making significant changes in communities to improve nutrition and to ensure that children reach adulthood. She recommends that other healthcare  practitioners enroll in the courses offered by NNIA to broaden their knowledge.
