Allergy is one of the major health issues of our modern society. Allergic diseases include foodallergy, eczema, asthma and allergic rhinitis. The “allergic march” is the concept that patientswith allergies may manifest early with eczema, with or without simultaneous food allergiesand later develop allergic rhinitis or asthma. This suggests that perhaps preventing eczemaand food allergy may have longer-term effects in preventing rhinitis and asthma. However,food allergy itself causes considerable distress for both the infants affected and their parents.
