Nurses And Midwives Academy – Zimbabwe

The NNIA launched the First 1 000 days Nurses and Midwives Academy in Bulawayo, Matabeleland on 12 & 13 September 2018. This is an education initiative with a clear curriculum on the importance of nutrition in the First 1 000 days.

The programme is based on a partnership between the NNIA and the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) to promote healthy nutrition in the crucial first 1 000 days, when it has the greatest impact on life-long health.

A total of 420 nurses and midwives drawn from all over the country attended the two day program which was conducted by renowned speakers that included:

• Dr Cynthia Mery Le-Bone Zandile Chasokela is a Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services in the MOHCC and a Board Member of Nurses Council of Zimbabwe and Ingutsheni Hospital Management.
• Dr Lilian Getrude Dodzo is a Principal Nursing Officer at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. She is the President of Zimbabwe Confederation of Midwives, Chairman of the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe and a Board Member for the Health Professions Authority.
• Dr Wedu Ndebele is a consultant Paediatrician; a clinical director and acting CEO at Mpilo Central Hospital, one of the two central hospitals in Bulawayo.
• Dr Thabani Thatha is a consultant paediatrician from Mpilo Hospital, Bulawayo.
